Psychometrics
Psychometric tools can be incredibly powerful, unlocking valuable insights including:
Psychometrics are tools designed to help us understand our abilities, preferences, motivations or strengths. These usually involve completing a questionnaire before exploring our results in a team or 1:1 coaching session.
These can make a great addition to development programmes (including early careers, leadership or topic specific e.g. Sales) by enhancing self-awareness, increasing emotional intelligence and by providing simple, relatable frameworks to fast-track skills development. Below is a summary of the various tools that Empower Development uses with individuals and teams.
SDI
Based on motivations rather than preferences, SDI helps us understand why we and others behave the way we do both when things are going well and in conflict. It is a hugely popular tool, available in over 25 languages and supported by a powerful platform. Team portraits give great insights into team strengths and potential blind spots. The tool is great for team-building sessions.
MBTI
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is one of the world’s most popular tools. The MBTI STEP I assessment identifies people as one of 16 MBTI personality types. STEP II digs a little deeper. Step I works well in team-building sessions and Step II works well in coaching. MBTI can be used to explore specific topics including resilience and decision-making.
Everything DiSC
Underpinned by a simple, memorable framework, DiSC provides both deep personal insights and tailored, practical tips on how to work effectively with others. The impressive Catalyst platform allows individuals to access tailored advice for specific colleagues and supports practical application beyond the classroom. This tool works well with groups and teams. It adds significant value when used in structured training programmes, e.g., leadership and sales.
Strengths Profile
Strengths Profile differs from other tools by focusing on strengths rather than personality. The tool helps individuals understand the relationship between what they are good at, what they enjoy, and what they actually do day to day. It is particularly powerful in development or high-potential programmes and in career coaching.
NEO-PI-3
As you might expect from a tool recognised as the ‘gold standard’, this tool provides comprehensive and robust reports. Report benchmarking makes this tool hugely valuable in leadership development coaching. This tool can also be used to feed into recruitment assessment processes.
Hogan Insight Series
The suite of Hogan tools assesses personality from every angle. The three tools can be used separately or together to provide an unparalleled view of an individual’s values, strengths, and potential career derailers. These robust tools are supported by a database of several million datasets and reports are benchmarked. We recommend this for executive development and 1:1 coaching. This tool can also be used to feed into recruitment assessment processes.
